The workshop on scientific writing was held at University of Cape Coast, Ghana 23-29 November 2022 from 9-12. The workshop was attended by 24 students and junior scientists from the University.
The workshop was structured with series of lectures taught by Prof. Marja Koski and Dr. Sigrún Jónasdóttir from DTU Aqua, in-class discussions and group discussions.
The aim of the workshop was:
- Introduction to scientific communication, motivation, essentials of scientific writing (accuracy, clarity, referencing), ethics.
- Planning and structure and drafting an article – The writing process, brainstorming/mind maps – structure and sections of a manuscript
- Data and statistics – Data types, basics tests to use, how to present statistical results, what goes in the article, figures and tables
- Clarity of writing – Chapter, sentence structure, topic-sentences, abstract
- Publication – Which journals to choose, impact factors, review process, letters to editors, reviewer comments, open access.
