Loughborough University is one of the leading universities in UK, with a strong profile in teaching and research, as well as strong connections to business and industry. Recently, ca. 90 percent of Loughborough’s research has been ranked as ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally-excellent’ by independent evaluations. The School of Social Sciences and Humanities and within it the Division of Geography and Environment focuses on the topics such as challenges to democracy and the public sphere, dimensions of inequality, identity, memory and heritage, and transitions under environmental change.

People in HOTSPOT

Katherine V. GoughKatherine V. Gough is Professor of Human Geography, Loughborough University, UK. Broadly located within critical development studies, her research focuses on geographies of everyday life in the global South. Her primary research areas include: livelihoods and entrepreneurship; housing and home; mobility and rural-urban dynamics; urbanisation and climate change; and urban governance and planning. Katherine has conducted research in numerous countries across Africa, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region but has focussed especially on Ghana. She is committed to collaborating with global South scholars and working closely with local communities to co-develop her research. In HOTSPOT2 she co-leads the research workpackage on the socio-economic impact of coastal degradation on fishing communities.
