People from AU involved in HOTSPOT
Maria Lund Paulsen, Aarhus University, has a BSc in Environmental Chemistry and a MSc and PhD in Biological Oceanography. She studies the role of microorganisms (virus, bacteria, phytoplankton and single-celled predators) in the transfer of carbon and nutrients in marine food webs. To do so, she uses a combination methods incl. flow cytometry, microscopy, radio-isotope tracing and DNA analysis, which she applies both in the field and in controlled experiments. Her current work focuses on how terrestrial compounds (organic matter, pollutants and nutrients) in freshwater runoff affects the growth of microorganisms in the coastal ecosystems. Maria L Paulsen has 20 peer-reviewed publications (first author of 7 and last author of 2), and extensive teaching and field work experience.
